Submitting To Agencies Online

Oct 6th, 2008 by Alan Yu

Alright, so I have taken the first step today in trying to find a more suitable film and TV agent and I decided to do a little risk taking and submitted to one of the largest agencies here in Vancouver. The good thing was that they accepted online submissions and so I was able to send my headshots and all that way.

The good thing about online submissions compared to a traditional mailing method is that aside from not having to waste money by sending a hard copy of your material, in an online environment you can tell whether or not someone in the agency received your package and whether or not someone took a look at it. Compare that to a traditional mailing method where you would probably have to phone to find out.

What I noticed is that I sent it today and sure enough my site stats indicated that someone from the agency definitely looked at my headshots and resume. From what it seems too, about twice with approximately a thirty minute gap from each view. Of course, now I can only speculate what happened.

I didn’t get a response yet and so my assumption is the following based on these stats:

1) The first person that got my material thought it was interesting and then passed it around to other people in the agency who then took a peak as well and they are deliberating whether or not they have room in their roster for me to consider calling me in.

2) It got passed around enough already and they determined that they already have enough people on their roster with a similar look.

One thing I did notice was that I also provided a link to a demo reel and that wasn’t viewed at all by them yet. So with that, the odds are leaning to point number 2 I’d say. From my past experience the agencies that were interested would often reply almost immediately. Then again, these were smaller agencies too which I suppose is a factor.

Of course, I am going to try to submit to others as well as it is a numbers game at this point.

Good suggestion, this is best way to make your career in acting. Make your online portfolio with your acting style videos, certificate from reputed institutes. Spread your portfolio by joining Social Networking Website. Your should submit your portfolio to several websites where acting agencies can contact you easily.
