Working On The Reaper
Dec 22nd, 2008 by Alan Yu
The day started out with another surprise as I received a phone call at noon from my agent informing me that the call times have been pushed two and a half hours earlier. As a result, I had to make my way to the set earlier than expected. Of course, there was a bunch of snow as mentioned the other day.
Upon arrival you have to go through this path of trailers, where the actors stay as well as the makeup and wardrobe people, to get to the holding area where I had to go as you can see here:

Funny thing I noticed was that the trailers were not marked according to the actor’s name but rather their character’s name. Example, one of the trailer had the name of “Devil” on it which I thought was funny.
Ultimately the holding area was actually right next to the stage entrance which was great considering how cold it was outside.

There were also some signs and literature plastered on that entrance door I noticed. One of them was about an Actor’s Fund of Canada charity challenge that the cast and crew of the Reaper are being encouraged to participate in apparently.

In the show there is this place called “The Work Bench” where the main character works at and the building was just around the corner and there were also some trucks that were branded with company logos as well.

I didn’t really get to do much on set despite being called in earlier. In total I’d say we were on set for less than seven minutes and that was a wrap. This has been literally the fastest on set work and take I have ever seen. Other than that we just hung around the holding area for a little over four hours or so. It was so fast there wasn’t even any need for a meal break which I would normally get when working on shows like these.
The sunlight was completely gone in the end too as you can see with these shots as I exited the studio.

I highly doubt you will be able to spot me in this one considering how fast the take was unlike last time and assuming that particular footage makes it to air. If you want to try and spot me this is my headshot that I normally use and is what the background casting directors usually see before any bookings are considered:

Maybe one day I’ll get to do something more than just being a background person for that show and then I’ll be able to get even better stuff to share. So, hopefully I was able to show all the Reaper fan visitors something interesting.

I hope you get to be more than a background person too, but more because it would just be an awesome experience for you!
Anyways, thank you SO much for sharing with us! I know you didn’t have to, nor go into so much detail. The pictures are awesome! I completely love them. I think it’s funny too that there’s a “Devil” trailer. I made the comment that since this episode will most likely air in June, once again we’re gonna get a Reaper season where the timeline on the show doesn’t match the timeline in real life. Last year we had Christmas in March. This year it looks like we’ll have snow in June!
I linked your blog to both ReaperDMV and Reaper_TV I’ll make sure to remember to point out that you’ll be in the episode when it finally airs. Maybe we *will* be able to spot you. Good luck, and once again, thank you very much!
Awesome! Thank you so much! We linked your report to reaperdmv.com, you’re welcome to come have a look. Good luck with your future bookings.
Alan, so cool! Literally, I guess. Thanks so much for posting these; it gives a Reaper fan something to gaze at while waiting for the show to start. Knowing you’ll be on it, however quickly, just gives us one more thing to look forward to! Nice headshot, by the way.
Hope it’s okay with you, I’d like to post a link to your blog at a few of the Reaper boards around the ‘Net. Let me know if not; I think my email address is attached, or post here and I’ll check back.
Good luck with your future acting gigs, and keep us updated!
You’re welcome everyone.
I was going to take a picture of this real retail store that I passed by on my way to the set as they apparently did some shooting in there for another episode, but the change in call time had me rushing a bit unfortunately. I’m not sure if that one aired or not already. It’s a regular store here called Canadian Tire for those that want some trivia when it comes to set locations.
I found a link to this from Blue Sunflower, and am I glad I checked. I hope you DO get called in more… of course not for your sake, but because you’d totally deliver more inside stuff on Reaper. That trailer factoid was so outstanding.
It can’t help much with Ray’s ego to have a trailer labeled “DEVIL”.
I love that the trailers are labeled by characters, that’s so Reaper.
Reaper is one of my favorite shows, so I love this behind-the-scenes look. The Devil Trailer is priceless. Thanks for sharing!
