Too Soon To Be An Acting Mentor
Jan 9th, 2009 by Alan Yu
So my old high school teacher asked me if I was willing to go back to my old high school and mentor some kids that were in the acting program. He emphasized that my grad year was the best he has ever had in all his years of teaching at that school and how he felt I was a prime example on what you can do in life by working hard.
While it was a great thought, I just felt a little uncomfortable about it. While after high school I have my accomplishments and all that, they are not directly related to acting as I just started to seriously get back into it last year. Therefore, it’s kind of weird I think being a mentor to students in an acting program when I still consider myself still fairly new and trying to establish myself.
He also mentioned that it would be great if I could help direct/coach the kids when it comes to them making various film work for competitions too. Again, I don’t consider myself that that level to be a true mentor though. I’ll think it over though as the bottom line I am thinking more about those kids and how they should be getting the best.
Mr. Yu, I only know you from the internets… but from what I can glean you would make a great mentor.
You’re a realist and saavy in all kinds of areas of acting. You have a common sense approach that could benefit some up and coming actors.
I vote you go be a mentor.
