Asleep For A Call

For yesterday’s last minute call it actually lasted till about 3am in the morning. As you may expect, I was tired and slept like a baby. During the day some people asked if the Chinese workers would be needed again and apparently all they needed was the military people. Therefore, that made me believe that my agent wouldn’t call for a booking for sure.

Wouldn’t you know it, when I woke up at around 1:30pm I checked my voicemail and my agent left me a message at about 10:30am asking if I could work on Farewell Atlantis again for another 3pm call time. She even left a comment mentioning how I am probably sleeping still and to phone her back when I woke up. Not too long after I got a text message from a friend asking me if I was going back.

I wasn’t too enthusiastic to go back, but figured it wouldn’t hurt. As expected though, since the call time was 3pm they had already booked enough people. It didn’t bother me too much as I’m generally not too picky about background work as I do it mostly for fun and experience. It just made me think that if this was a regular audition or film part I better have ways to make sure that I wake up for possible important last minute opportunities.

Last Minute Call

Wow, just got a sudden call at about 2:50pm today on whether or not I could go to the Farewell Atlantis set. I mentioned that I could and it was off to the North Vancouver location today. I didn’t do much considering it was a rush call too.

It was kind of funny as the wardrobe people would refer to me as the “ASAP person” as usually on this movie they would have your costumes all chosen ahead of time. Gonna be a long day I bet.

Well my agent contacted me last night stating how apparently the movie Farewell Atlantis needs some Chinese Workers again. So, she submitted me as available and sure enough I’m back on set for this movie today at the Vancouver Film Studios.

With a call time of 10:30am I wonder if this one is going to be another very long day. I wonder how many people have been called for today’s shoot. Then again, every time I have worked on this movie it looked like there was always at least 300+ people or so on set.

I’m assuming at this point that I probably won’t be needed for this film again, so I thought I would wrap up an overall thought of my experience on this set. The hours were not for the weak of heart that’s for sure as on average everyday was almost 15 hours of work. This set had the most amount of Asian people I have seen due to the nature of the movie as you can see from this crammed up tent area.

Long hours meant that most people were not able to get enough sleep. For example, one day we started at 9am and wrapped up at midnight only to come back at 9am the next day and end at 1am. One of my friends was actually working on this movie as well and as you can see he was one tired lump of clay during the last day.

The working conditions for this film was the harshest I have been on personally. People getting soaked in pools of water, endless amount of running and not to mention the windy conditions to get to and from set during the last few days. Although, one person told me this was nothing like the filming of X-men that took place here as apparently that was a nightmare with people freezing outside in the cold.

Like always, I met new people and have fun with it. As I mentioned before, this is one movie that I am very interested in seeing how it turns out from a technical standpoint since it looks like a lot of computer graphics will be used. Time to focus on the acting again.

Farewell Atlantis Day 7

Well, this should have been the final day on Farewell Atlantis for me being a Chinese Worker. I am really dead tired as of writing this as it has been a very long few days. I’ll write some more details tomorrow as now all I am thinking about is getting some sleep.

Night all.

Farewell Atlantis Day 6

Another tiring day this was and the wrap up time for me was almost midnight. Tomorrow should be the last day that I am working on this movie as to my knowledge this should be wrapping up at around December and I haven’t heard anything about bookings for it personally.

Saw a lot of stunt activities today which was fun. I myself was very close to the edge in this scene which was interesting as well. It really makes me wonder how it will turn out as there is probably going to be a lot of CGI in creating things like the background.

Hope the last day will be fun.
