I thought this was kind of interesting as recently I noticed a lot of background agencies were trying to find older looking men to work on the L Word where the scene involved some kind of area that is supposed to be filled with gay men.  The production must have had one heck of a time casting people for this many agencies to be advertising for it and explicitly mentioning that  people must be comfortable with the subject matter.

I have personally only encountered one time where there was nudity in a scene involving a bunch of naked girls in a club and I remember my background agent asked me if I was comfortable with it.  The funny thing too was before I even said anything she immediately reassured me that I would just be the bystander with the rest of the people.  I never encountered a situation involving sexual orientation though.

In my opinion, being around the situation and involved in it is a completely different when it comes to film in this case.  Like for that scene if they said people would have to start “embracing” each other then that’s a little different than just pretending you are in say some bar where the circumstance can be anything.

In school one of the things they actually purposely made us do was romantic scenes that required some kind of physical affection.  This was to help us get over the fact that we would most likely be required to say kiss another person.  I haven’t had to deal with the situation yet from an actor point of view though outside of school.
